Love Purple, Live Gold

Throughout my time at LSU, I have engaged in a multitude of community service projects. Public service is an important part of LSU's mission, as well as my own. Every year, LSU coordinates three major days of service for students: Community Bound, MLK Day of Service and Geaux BIG Baton Rouge. Community Bound is an 8-hr day of service at the beginning of the school year where minor construction projects are completed at local Baton Rouge elementary schools in preparation for their first day of school. The MLK Day of service, held every January and Geaux BIG Baton Rouge, held every April, are additional 8-hr days of service where students and organizations are sent to various locations around the Greater Baton Rouge Area where help has been requested. These projects can range from cemetery restoration and home improvement for Baton Rouge residents to gardening, outdoor beautification and other projects requested by local businesses.

I have also completed numerous small-scale projects as a member of VolunteerLSU, GIVE@LSU, SWE@LSU, NSBE@LSU and through enrollment in various service-learning courses. LSU encourages its students to contribute positively to the life of the campus and the surrounding community and has energetically prepared me to be an active citizen after LSU. I value giving back to the very community that has given so much to me in my undergraduate career and I strive to maintain my commitment to service and commitment to the community as I progress as a person and in my career.
